How to Choose A4 or Letter Size Before You Print
Avoid bad scaling and cut-off edges — set the right page size before you generate a Print Code.
Paper size mistakes cause most “why does this look weird?” prints
If margins look shifted, text feels too close to the edge, or pages scale down with white borders, the document page size often does not match the paper in the tray. Understanding A4 vs Letter before you print — and before you generate a Print Code — prevents wasted sheets.
Quick facts
- A4 — 210 × 297 mm. Common default across India, Europe, and much of Asia. Most neighborhood shops stock A4.
- Letter — 8.5 × 11 inches (about 216 × 279 mm). Common in the United States and Canada.
They are close but not identical. Letter is slightly wider and shorter than A4. Mixing them without adjusting causes scaling or clipping.
How to choose before printing
- Ask the shop which paper is loaded (almost always A4 in many regions).
- In your document editor or design tool, set page size to match.
- Export a fresh PDF.
- In Print Kotika, select that PDF and set the matching page size in print settings.
- Preview on the printing device before the full run.
What happens if sizes do not match
- The printer may shrink content to fit, adding uneven borders.
- Content near edges may be cut off.
- Multi-page booklets can look inconsistent page to page.
Tips for forms and certificates
Government and university forms are usually designed for A4. US academic templates may assume Letter. When in doubt, open the PDF properties or print preview on your own device and confirm dimensions before visiting the shop.
Set it once in the Print Code
Print Kotika lets you choose page size with your documents. That way the person printing does not have to guess — they open the code and see the intended settings, then preview to confirm.
